The Senate of the Undergraduate Student Association meets Tuesday nights at 7 PM.

For the 2021-2022 year, the Senate will be meeting in person in Regis at 7 P.M. on Tuesdays. If you are interested in attending please reach out to any E-Board member!

 

SYNOPSIS

The Senate of the Undergraduate Student Association is the Student Government at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY.

There are three main branches that form the Senate: legislative, executive, and cabinet.

THE LEGISLATIVE BRANCH IS COMPRISED OF THE 20 VOTING MEMBERS OF THE SENATE, THE SPEAKER, AND THE VICE SPEAKER.

  • THE VOTING MEMBERS ARE SENATORS, OF WHICH, THERE ARE 5 THAT ARE ELECTED TO REPRESENT EACH CLASS.

  • THE SPEAKER IS A NON-VOTING MEMBER WHO IS APPOINTED BY THE SENATORS TO LEAD AND STRUCTURE SENATE MEETINGS.

  • SIMILARLY, THE VICE SPEAKER IS A NON-VOTING, APPOINTED MEMBER WHO ASSISTS THE SPEAKER AND FULFILLS THE SPEAKER’S RESPONSIBILITIES IN THEIR ABSENCE.

THE EXECUTIVE BOARD IS COMPRISED OF FOUR POSITIONS THAT THE ENTIRE UNDERGRADUATE COMMUNITY ELECTS. THE ROLES INCLUDE PRESIDENT, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, VICE PRESIDENT OF BUSINESS & FINANCE, AND VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS.

  • THE PRESIDENT SERVES AS THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE SENATE AND THE OFFICIAL SPOKESPERSON OF THE USA. THEY ALSO SIT ON VARIOUS COMMITTEES AND BOARDS OF THE COLLEGE INCLUDING THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND THE BOARD OF REGENTS.

  • THE EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT SERVES AS PRESIDENT IN THEIR ABSENCE, HANDLES THE MAJORITY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS FOR SENATE HAPPENINGS INCLUDING SENATE PAPERWORK. THEY ALSO OVERSEE ALL COMMITTEES OF THE SENATE.

  • THE VICE PRESIDENT OF BUSINESS AND FINANCE SERVES AS THE CHIEF BUSINESS OFFICER, CREATE AND MAINTAIN THE CAPITAL BUDGET, AND SERVE AS THE CHAIR OF AND OVERSEE THE FINANCE BOARD.

  • THE VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGES ALL MEETING MATERIALS, PRESS RELEASES, THE USA WEBSITE, ALL USA SOCIAL MEDIA, AND MAINTAIN THE BRAND & APPEARANCE OF THE USA.


    THE MEMBERS OF THE CABINET ARE THE STUDENT ATHLETIC ADVISORY BOARD (SAAC) REPRESENTATIVE, STUDENT PROGRAMMING BOARD (SPB) REPRESENTATIVE, DIVERSITY BOARD CHAIR, AND THE CHAIRS OF ALL COMMITTEES.

Preamble of Our Constitution

“We, the undergraduate students of Canisius College, in pursuit of academic excellence and ethical and spiritual growth for the community of Canisius, pledge ourselves to the development of the whole person, to the ideals and values of the Jesuit tradition. As the undergraduate students of Canisius College, we make it our responsibility to uphold and defend the mission of the College and the Jesuit identity. Committing ourselves to magis and the pursuit of excellence, as well as a dedication to social justice, cura personalis, and standing with and for others. In pledging this, we are bound to protect and uphold, to the best of our ability, the rights and privileges guaranteed to our members by this constitution and the Community Standards of this College and do hereby independently establish the Canisius College Undergraduate Student Association.”
